Turkish Men’s Lacrosse Wins Second Consecutive Sixes Bronze Medal

The Turkish men’s lacrosse team continued their success in the International Olympic Style Sixes Lacrosse format. At the 2023 Eurolax Sixes Cup held in Greece, the Turkish National Sixes team captured their second bronze medal of 2023, following their 3rd place finish in the previous Sixes Tournament held in Algarve, Portugal. 


The Thessaloniki, Greece tournament was also the first since the formal reintroduction of lacrosse as an Olympic sport. Fielding a team of mostly Turkish born homegrown players, the team got crucial wins against Bulgaria and Serbia on their way to a third place finish. The team also included several Turkish Americans, all of whom had college or international lacrosse experience in both the United States and Italy including Jon Uysal (McGill University), goaltender Yoel Ovadya (Drew University), and Deniz Koraman (Rutgers University Club). 

The tournament was highlighted by a 19-3 win over Bulgaria in pool play, a 22-7 win over Bulgaria in the play-in match, and a 13-10 win against Serbia in the 3rd place match to secure a bronze medal. Jon Uysal finished as one of the top scorers, Yoel Ovadya finished with one of tournament’s highest save percentages.
