Meet Team Turkey’s 2017 Men’s Indoor Lacrosse Head Coach Shaun Church
CURRENT ONONDAGA COMMUNITY COLLEGE ASSISTANT COACH TAKES  INDOOR TEAM REIGNS FOR 2017 EUROPEAN BOX LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS 

Istanbul, Turkey (June 15 2017)- Turkey Lacrosse Association, governing body for lacrosse in Republic of Turkey, selected Mr. Shaun Church to lead Team Turkey’s 2017 Senior Men’s Indoor Lacrosse Team  heading to the inaugural ELF European Box Lacrosse Championships this July hosted in Turku, Finland.

“When the TLA reached out this year asking if I would lead them in the Euro Box Championships, I knew this was a great opportunity, ” said Church. : I did not hesitate accepting the head coaching position and help mold these young men.”

“Excited for Shaun to take the team to Finland in July. He;s a very passionate coach with championship experience, ” said Ryan Danehy, TLA Chairman, President and Field Head Coach. “There’s little doubt that his direction will lead to a very successful and competitive event for our indoor squad.”

“Coach Church exudes the exact enthusiasm we strive for in every coach,” said Tunahan Sonat, TLA board member. ” We have all the trust one can give leading our team for the Euro Box Championships.”

“Our indoor squad is young and Coach Church is the right fit as he can relate to them in terms of coaching style,” said Deniz Piatt, TLA board member. ” Church leads by example and this is exactly the type of quality we look for and our young players need.”

“We will be tested at the ELF Euro Box Championships this July and these young men have such drive and passion,” said Church. ” I am ready to take the floor with these young men and represent the Republic of Turkey with honor and sportsmanship.”

Shaun Church brings over 8 years of coaching experience at all levels and ages. Most recently helped lead the NJCAA Onondaga CC to the 2017 NJCAA National Championships. Prior to that, Coach Church was Head Coach of NJCAA ASA CC out of Brooklyn, NY USA. and NCAA Division III assistant coach with King’s College and Eastern University. He continues to coach various youth programs throughout the Northeast since 2010.

Shaun graduated with an AA degree from Onondaga CC in 2009 where he captained the Lazers to a NJCAA National Championship that same year. He was named as an 2008 NJCAA All-American in the midfield position. Church transferred to NCAA Division III powerhouse Salisbury University in 2010..

Church won the NCAA Division III National Championships back to back in 2011 and 2012 with the Seagulls as a defensive midfielder. The same years the Seagulls were CAC Conference Champions with an impressive undefeated season in 2012. The perfect 2012 season culminated with Coach Church graduating with his BA in Psychology.

On his spare time, Church travels across the United States performing clinics to youth players and recently established the MuDD Academy out of Syracuse, NY USA concentrating on speed and agility for lacrosse, football, basketball and soccer.
